What is the CrossFit OPEN?

The Open is a global celebration of all the individual reasons we CrossFit and also serves to find the "Fittest on Earth" through being the first step to the CrossFit Games.

Maybe it’s to live healthier lives. Maybe it’s to lift your kids or stay healthy for your family.

Maybe it’s just to prove we can do more than we ever believed possible.

The OPEN, for the vast majority of CrossFitters from around the globe, serves as an inclusive and fun way to test your fitness with the global CrossFit Community.

Whatever it is, this is the time to show the world your unique why with #ThisIsWhy

How will it be run this year for the CrossFit Wild South Community?

This year’s Open, as always, is accessible and achievable for all levels of CrossFit athletes with Rx, Scaled, Foundations and adaptive options for you to compete in with your Wild South community.

NO MATTER WHAT LEVEL YOU ARE. THERE IS A VERSION OF A WORKOUT FOR YOU.

 

This year's format has 3 workouts, released weekly (Friday 1st March, Friday 8th March and Friday 15th March NZ Time) that can be completed at CFWS - or any of the other 14,000+ CrossFit Affiliates worldwide.

 

For the 2024 OPEN, we have allocated specific classes for you to complete the workouts in, they will be on Fridays at 5:30 pm OR Saturdays from 8 am. Performing OPEN workouts outside of these sessions due to work or family commitments should be discussed with Stacy/Mike as soon as possible. 

 

Those classes will be run as heats (the size and number of them will depend on the workout released, gear required and judges available) and coaches will be available to help with warm-ups, scaling discussions and also strategies for those who need them.

If those times are not suitable for your schedule, then one of the other options (the at-home with or without equipment division) may be your best option to participate.

 

We will have class plans, warm-ups and strategies available very shortly after the workouts are released.

After the 5:30 pm Friday session has been completed, we will head down to the Tuatara Cafe for a bit of a debrief and some deep and meaningful analysis.

After the 8 am morning session, we will hang around in the box for coffee and share snacks as the debrief and analysis. You will be most welcome to bring along some treats for snacks to add to the ones provided.
