When you walk into CrossFit Wild South, you’ll meet people from all walks of life—each with their own story, their own goals, and their own reasons for showing up. One of those people is Monique, a 36-year-old powerhouse who’s been part of our community for over six years.
Her journey didn’t start with a search for the latest fitness trend—it started with inspiration.
“I got into CrossFit from watching my brother compete in the Southern Crusade,”
“He was at another CrossFit gym, and when he came here to compete, I saw the atmosphere and I just knew I wanted to be involved.”
Before CrossFit, Monique had tried a lot of different group fitness classes and had spent time training on her own. But watching the intensity, camaraderie, and energy of a live competition gave her something she hadn’t felt in a while—excitement.
The Difference is in the Culture
For Monique, the difference between CrossFit and everything else is clear.
“You leave your ego at the door. There’s no six-week challenge or quick fix. You just show up each day, do something different, and get better over time.”
At CrossFit Wild South, the focus isn’t on aesthetic transformations or gimmicky programmes—it’s about consistency, community, and functional training. The environment is supportive, dynamic, and anything but boring.
“Everyone is amazing. It’s a real community, and you just don’t get bored.”
Favourite Movements? She’s Got a Few
Monique’s been doing CrossFit long enough to have developed a few favourites—and like any good CrossFitter, she breaks them down by category:
- Cardio: Rowing
- Gymnastics: Handstand push-ups
- Strength: Squat cleans
Each movement challenges her in a different way, and the variety is what keeps her showing up.
“Just come in the door”
For anyone considering CrossFit but feeling unsure or intimidated, Monique’s advice is simple:
“You just need to come and visit the gym. As soon as you walk in, you’ll feel how great it is. It’s not scary or intimidating at all.”
And she’s right—once you’re inside, you’ll see people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds, each working toward the same goal: moving their body for their health.
